Citizen of the Red River Métis Nation –

About Us

Whats in a name?

KIHKAWAĶIS (kihkâwâķîs) means “little wolverine” in the Cree and Michif language. This name was taken as a middle finger to the “Kuekuatsu” scene in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, symbolizing a stand against rampant on-set abuse, the theft of Indigenous identities and culture, and the complicity of the entertainment industry in these practices.

The Cree word was “kwiihkwahaacheew,” and the story Silver Fox tells Logan is very close to an actual Ojibway myth about the wolverine “gwiingwa’aage” The One Who Came from the Shooting Star.

KIHKAWAĶIS (kihkâwâķîs) stands as a powerful “Indignant” protest against the erasure and mistreatment of Indigenous people in Hollywood, as well as against sexual coercion in art and outright theft of Red River Métis culture.
